Helping Patients and Families with the Healthcare
Experience
Child Life Specialists address the
social, emotional and developmental needs of hospitalized children.
Therapeutic intervention, play and educational programs are individualized
through developmental observations which allow children to have
opportunities to develop positive coping skills, be expressive, gain
knowledge through patient information and master the potentially traumatic
realities of disease, intrusive medical treatments, separation and
isolation.
Family
Focused Care
A pediatric patient is viewed as a child
first, not as an illness or a disease. Specialists focus on
achieving a balance between the medical component and the psychosocial
needs of the child and his/her family.
By meeting psychological, developmental,
cognitive and social needs, specialists help young patients and their
entire family learn to deal with illness and hospitalization.
