Residency Program
Chairman's Letter

The goals of the UCLA Residency Program are to personalize the education of each resident, to facilitate the development of the essential values of pediatrics, to promote lifelong learning, and to prepare each resident for the clinical, social, and economic challenges that will characterize pediatrics and all of medicine during your career.

Ed McCabe, M.D., Ph.D.

Those of us who choose a career in Pediatrics share a commitment to promote the health of children. The means we choose to achieve this goal are extraordinarily diverse, from general pediatric rural practice to critical care in an academic medical center, from adolescent medicine in an inner-city neighborhood to cutting-edge research in a lab.

The educational challenge that we face is to meet the diverse demands of a rapidly changing health-care environment, and to help residents fulfill their commitment to children’s health in whatever career they eventually choose. The UCLA Tri-Campus Pediatric Residency Program is uniquely positioned to meet this challenge. The three campuses – Mattel Children’s Hospital at UCLA, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, and Los Angeles County-Olive View Medical Center – offer a range and strength of experiences that is unsurpassed in the country.

We?re excited to offer the following Pediatric Residency Tracks: the Categorical Pediatrics track, the Pediatrics-Genetics track, the Pediatric Research track, and the Primary Care Community Health and Advocacy track.  In addition, a combined program in pediatrics and internal medicine is also available.

No matter what track you choose, our clinical sites, the patients whom we serve, our educational philosophy, our commitment to the advancement of science, our faculty, and especially our housestaff all combine to create a learning environment that is dynamic, challenging, responsive, and rewarding!
