The Pediatrics/ Genetics Track was
started in 2000 and offers residents the opportunity to obtain dual
certification in Pediatrics and Medical Genetics in a five-year integrated
training program. The basic schedule for residents in this program is as
follows: PGY 1- all Pediatrics, PGY 2 through 4- six months of Pediatrics and
six months of Medical Genetics in each year, and PGY 5- research in Medical
Genetics. The first year in Pediatrics is identical to categorical track
residents. The 18 months in Pediatrics over the second through fourth years of
training will be proportional to that of categorical track residents (i.e. Peds/Genetics
track residents will have approximately three quarters time in the regular
pediatric rotations scheduled for categorical track senior residents).
Rotations in Medical Genetics include Genetics Clinic and Consult service,
Prenatal Diagnosis, Metabolic Clinics, Cytogenetics Laboratory, Molecular and
Biochemical Laboratories, Genetic Specialty Clinics, and Common Genetic
Diseases.
If you are interested in applying to
this track, you may submit your application through ERAS using the same number
as the categorical track. If you are potentially interested in this track,
please include this information in your application or
contact us by
email.
